Flight Time

A visual history of my experiences as a private pilot

Homebuilt Airplane

Nick, the pilot, in his homebuilt airplane

I made this video (slideshow) for my friend Nick. He had recently purchased a Europa XS homebuilt airplane from the UK. He had been looking for a while because, as you can imagine, homebuilt airplanes don’t come on the market that often … and especially not this somewhat rare one.

Nick called me at work on this evening and asked if I wanted join him for a quick flight that evening. Of course, I said “yes” immediately and then met him at the airport after work. We took off from Annemasse, France, where he keeps the airplane in a hanger, and flew along the south side of Lake Geneva to Evian, France. It was springtime so everything was really green. We saw the jet d’eau at the Geneva end of the lake and returned to the Annemasse airport as the sun was about to set.

The flight was just over 30 minutes and the video is just over 4 minutes long. After the flight we sat on the terrace at the flying club and enjoyed a cold drink while watching the remaining parachutists return to the field.
